Oruval, there are a lot of idiots in this country, and to try to confront them all would be an endless task that would only end in utter frustration. Sometimes you just have to let it slide and move on. It seems like most people on Daily Paul are onto him and have chosen to simply ignore him. Something to think about.

Well, there is a difference between pontificating and prosecuting. People can say whatever they want, but when they actually do things that are illegal, they must be confronted and prosecuted promptly. Unfortunately, we have allowed both to slide.
Now don't get me wrong; there is a point to confronting problems with what someone is saying. But after a point, you just turn them over to their insanity and let them go their own way. You can't reform everyone, and arguing with them at that point only encourages them.

I wonder if someone is hacking either the black box or the gps (or actually making them "talk" to each other)and making these cars accelerate? I don't have all the arguments down on how it could work but only because of things I've seen work (hacking diebold for one) and my old-timey computer education, I believe that it is entirely possible. Can you imagine the panic if these cutesy lil black boxes (and the gps systems where "certain mechanisms" can be controlled off site) become exposed by hackers remote controlling innocent folk's cars? Something is up with this whole deal.

This is really more of a question for a modern auto-mechanic: is the GPS system tied into the navigation and/or acceleration systems of these cars? There is certainly a lot more computer control of cars with a lot of interrelations between the systems, but without understanding the underlying hardware, I cannot say if this would be possible or not. I would not surprise me at all if the possibility of this kind of thing currently exists in some of the higher end cars.
That'd make a great horror movie, if it's not already the truth. Opening scene: Southern 500....well maybe another race where more Toyota's race...some European race, then as the panic spreads, we realize all cars since 2002 have black boxes and THEN the Southern 500 scene where the Chevy's, Dodge's and Ford's all go amuck.

Hijacked - Well that is certainly already a possibility as On-Star can stop or start your car.
I think it's doable, the whole thing. When I was programming Lotus (yes way back when programming lotus to canned platforms was the latest), I learned of a code that would override even the autoexec.bat and set it's own program on top and before autoexec. Today that is what hackers do to send in bodacious trouble, they override autoexec (from what I've seen on my computer anyway).
SO, if I could do that 11 years ago, I'd say a hacker could break in (which is where the real work lies) and override any operating system today.
If the hardware supports it -- meaning that the computer modules have access to the acceleration and/or steering -- then yes, it is very possible. You would need to have On-Star or some other GPS system installed.
The key is what physical controls are tied into that computer system. As I understand it, there can be multiple computer systems in a car and not all are tied together -- or at least they didn't use to be. With more modern cars, it is entirely likely that the entire system is linked together by computer giving a hacker complete control of the car from the radio and air conditioning to the brakes and steering. You can be certain that the government has access to this stuff to. There is a reason to buy a down-to-the-basics type of car if ever there was one. No On-Star or GPS for me. Give me a paper map.
But the black boxes most people are unaware of. And if you think about it, there does not need to be a physical link at all. What about a wireless, digital discussion between programs that causes them to physically work together?
We really have no idea what is in our newer vehicles. I can imagine all sorts of things. The fact that the boxes started one year after 9/11 could make one question what's up with the box besides recording the driver's and car's reactions?
You know, it is times like this that make me wonder if the Amish have it right. After all, it would be extremely difficult to "hack" a horse-drawn carriage without physically attacking it. It is that much more difficult for the government to spy on you when you are not connected to the Internet and use cash in all of your transactions. There is a reason why most people just leave the Amish alone: they simply aren't worth the effort.

I don't know what Rhino's deal is either. I know Brian and he's no racist that I can tell.
